What will I learn during year 8 ?
During year 8 you will rotate around four carousel projects, exploring a range of topics within Design and Technology. You will put your new knowledge and skills to the test as you design, develop and make real working products which you can take home.

Food and NutritionIn Food and Nutrition you will learn about the nutritional content of foods as you plan, prepare and cook a range of dishes from each of the 5 food groups....

Chocolate mould projectIn this project you will explore plastic processes and their applications.
Building on the theme of shaping plastics you will develop your understanding of the vacuum forming process as you design, develop and manufacture a range of intricate, multi-layered chocolate moulds. You will work through the design process before manufacturing the wooden former used to shape the sheet plastic. Moving into the food technology area you will put your chocolate moulds to the test as you make your own batch of unique chocolates. |
|
USB LED light projectThe aim of this project is to give you an introduction into the basics of circuit design. You will explore a range of electronic components before constructing your own circuit.
You will design, develop and manufacture a USB powered, decorative desk lamp using the high power LED provided. As you develop your ideas you will explore alternative ways of encasing the LED in order to produce a decorative lighting effect. |
|
Cube calendar projectYou will learn about several different types of timber as you explore how the raw materials are manufactured and environmental impact of wood production.
You will develop your wood working skills as you manufacture a cube calendar, marking out using templates before learning how to cut and shape wood joints. |
