Y7 Food & Nutrition


Fruit smoothie

Ingredients
1 Banana
200ml semi-skimmed cold milk
2 Tablespoons of yoghurt

 
 
Method
  1. Break your banana in half and add to the blender
  2. Pour the milk and spoon in the yogurt into the blender.
  3. Put the lid on the blender and switch on for 30-45 seconds, until smooth.
  4. Pour the smoothie into your container

Pizza

Ingredients
100g Strong Flour
½ Teaspoon yeast
Warm water
Tablespoon of tomato sauce
80g Cheddar cheese
Any other toppings

Method
  • Pre heat your oven to 200C
  • Line a baking tray with some grease proof paper
  • Place your flour and yeast into a mixing bowl
  • Fill a jug half way with warm water
  • Add a LITTLE water to your flour, mix
  • Keep adding a little bit of water to your flour until you get a moist dough consistency – It should be a little sticky and get stuck to your hands
  • Turn your dough out onto a lightly floured surface – PLACE YOUR NOW EMPTY BOWL IN HOT SOAPY WATER FOR EASE OF CLEANING
  • Knead your dough for approx. 10 mins – by the end of the 10 mins your dough should be smooth and soft
  • Using a rolling pin – roll your dough out to your desired thickness (How thick is the base of your pizza when your order one from Papa Johns/Dominos/Pizza Hut?)
  • Place your pizza base onto the lined baking tray
  • Paint your pizza base with tomato sauce, leaving a crust, add your cheese (Add other toppings if you have some)
  • Place in the oven for approx. 10 mins – Cheese should be bubbling and base should be turning golden around the crust/edges, if its not, leave it in a bit longer

Chicken Fajitas

Teaspoon of fajita seasoning
Tablespoon of oil
1 Chicken breast
¼ Onion
¼ Pepper
1 Tortilla wrap
Method
  • Using a RED chopping board, cut your chicken into strips using the craw cutting technique
  • Now using a GREEN or BROWN board, cut your onion and pepper to a similar size to your chicken
  • Now turn on your hob, place your frying pan on a med/high heat. Add your oil to the pan.
  • After a couple of minutes, add your chicken strips to the hot oil. Fry for approx.. 4 mins, turning occasionally.
  • Now add your onion and pepper
  • Sprinkle your fajita seasoning into the frying pan, stir to coat all of the ingredients in the pan
  • Cook for a further 5 mins, check chicken is cooked all the way through (Cut the thickest bit of chicken in half, if it is all white on the inside it is cooked!) If not, cook for a further 3 mins
  • Take your chicken off the heat
  • Place your tortilla wrap on a YELLOW board
  • Put your chicken/veg mixture in the center of the wrap, fold and the bottom, then fold the two sides.

Apple Crumble

50g Butter
100g Plain Flour
25g Sugar
2 Apples
50g Oats
Method
  • Pre Heat your oven to 190C
  • Rub the butter into the flour (Rubbing in method) until it looks like breadcrumbs
  • Stir in the oats and sugar, making sure they are all combined
  • No using a green or brown chopping board, cut your apples into 1cm cubes
  • Place your apples in the bottom of your oven proof tin
  • Sprinkle over your crumble topping, do not flatten down
  • Place your tin onto a baking tray and place in the oven. Cook for 20 mins
