What will I learn during year 8 ?

During year 8 you will rotate around four carousel projects, exploring a range of topics within Design and Technology.  You will put your new knowledge and skills to the test as you design, develop and make real working products which you can take home.

USB Light project

The aim of this project is to give you an introduction into the basics of circuit design.  You will explore a range of electronic components before constructing your own circuit.

You will design, develop and manufacture a USB powered, decorative desk lamp using the high power LED provided.

As you develop your ideas you will explore alternative ways of encasing the LED in order to produce a decorative lighting effect.

Electric race car project

You will learn about mechanisms and the types of motion as you design, develop and make a working electric race car.  This project focusses on sustainability and links in closely with our whole school recycling initiative.

You will get the opportunity to use our new recycling system to shred plastic offcuts and collected single use plastic products into granules which can then be melted down and injection moulded your own wheels.
